🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 21 Unusual Things to 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 21 Unusual Things to Do in Edinburgh 🎨 Edinburgh's free museums are well known, but the National Portrait Gallery (first image) is a bit more hidden. Bring your wide-angle lens to photograph its gorgeous main room! 🐧 Take a day trip to North Berwick and a boat tour to the Isle of May. This nature reserve is the breeding ground for tens of thousands of birds, including puffins (second image). 🦢 Hidden behind Arthur's seat is Duddingston, a little village with a lot of charm. Explore Dr. Neils garden and then head to lunch at the oldest pub in Scotland. 🌅 Along the Royal Mile is Camera Obscura, a fantastic museum that's truly fun for all ages. The rooftop is a true gem with sunset views over Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile. 🌃 The National Museum of Scotland has so much to explore inside, but many people don't make the journey up to the roof. This typically quiet rooftop has views over the entire city, including Arthur's Seat and the Pentlands. ➡️ Find the full guide of 21 Unusual Things to Do in Edinburgh at the link in our bio and be sure to follow @voyagingherbivore for more Edinburgh travel tips! #edinburghcity #edinburghlife #edinburghscotland #edinburghsnapshots #visitscotland #visitscotlandnow #visitedinburgh #scotlandiscalling

That being said, we did learn a lot about vanlife and I'll be sharing things that we wished we had known on the blog soon. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 I would love your recommendations for Scotland! 🌞 Us vs Solar Panels: Round Two ⛅️ Coming S 🌞 Us vs Solar Panels: Round Two ⛅️ Coming Sunday If you were with us a few weeks ago, you may remember that we rode the struggle bus (got dragged behind it more like) when we tried to install solar panels a few weeks ago. Thankfully, a kind soul on the internet (they do exist!) has offered to help us in exchange for the old currency of beer, so on Sunday morning we will be driving Swanson to hopefully, enjoy a quick morning of sun. In the mean time, when we’ve been in the van we’ve been trying out our Jackery and portable solar panel. If you’ve been considering getting one, you can read our full review at the link in our bio! Now, do you think we will succeed on Sunday (pending good weather)? 🤞 #vanlifeuk #vanlifemovement #vanlifeexplorers #vanlifeideas #vanlifedreams
🥾 HOW TO HIKE WINNATS PASS IN THE PEAK DISTRICT 🥾 HOW TO HIKE WINNATS PASS IN THE PEAK DISTRICT [Save this for later!] Winnats Pass, the road pictured in the second photo, is a gorgeous hike near Castleton in the Peak District. We visited last weekend with high hopes of a relatively easy Sunday hike in the sun, only to get massively off route, slide down a 60-70 degree incline mud hill, and nearly get blown off the hill from the incredible winds. All this is to say, we made the mistakes so you don’t have to! 🚗 WHERE TO PARKCastleton Car/Coach Park, doesn’t accept credit cards and there are no cashpoints in town. However, there is a free bathroom here! Peak Cavern All Day Car Park which seems to have no overnight parking restrictions that we could see, accepts cards, and is £6 for all day parking. If we were to go back, it seems that you can get away with parking on Sparrowpit Buxton A623.A6 where it intersects with Winnats pass. 🏔 TRAIL LENGTH AND DIFFICULTYI love writing about trail length because it always sounds so optimistic. So with that in mind, here is the @alltrails route details that we intended to take, however our massive detour made it a little different! Difficulty: Moderate Length: 4.4 Miles (4.5 in our case - not bad)Type of Route: Loop Elevation: 1092 ft (1322 ft - what’s 300 more feet I guess)Time to Complete: 2.5 hours (2.2 hours - not sure how that happened) 🚶‍♂️ TRAIL TIPSWhen you follow this trail you’ll get to Winnat’s pass and be forced with the decision of walking by the road (there is plenty of space on the grass) or hiking up the 20-30 degree incline. The views are great from the top, however on a muddy and windy day it really does become a safety hazard - take the trail by the road. 💧 ON TRAIL WATER & FOOD Food is available in Castleton and from vending machines near the eastern most side of Winnat’s Pass, however there are no streams on the route that we came across at which you can filter water. ….📸 Find our full camera gear list at the link in our bio!….#peakdistrictwalks #peakdistrictnationalpark #peakdistrictphotography #peakdistrictwalkers #winnatspass
🚙 FULL-TIME VAN LIFE HERE WE COME Since we h 🚙 FULL-TIME VAN LIFE HERE WE COME Since we have some new faces around here, we wanted to introduce ourselves again and give you a little update on our future travel and vanlife plans! My name is Alysa 🇺🇸 and I’m the OG Voyaging Herbivore. In 2018 I went to London to spend a semester abroad which is where I met Jack on Hinge. We spent three years doing long distance between the US and the UK while I finished college. We purchased one way tickets to Bali in the summer of 2019 with a departure date of June 2020, with plans to travel until we ran out of money or got tired of it, whichever came first. You can imagine how well that went. I came to visit Jack in the UK in March of 2020 with the intention of staying only a week, but of course the Big C kicked into full force and I ended up staying in the UK longer than expected. With our Bali dreams washed down the drain, we applied for our working holiday visas in New Zealand and as you can guess, we’re still waiting on the refund from that. So with time running out on my tourist visa for the UK, I decided to do my master’s in Edinburgh, which is where I spent the last year living while Jack worked in Sheffield. Just a few months ago I finished my degree, moved down to Sheffield with Jack annnnnd we bought a van! Beautiful Swanson has turned out to be more of a money pit than we would like - I guess what else did we expect but our big blueberry is almost done (pending solar panels) and in January of 2022 we’ll be setting off for full time vanlife! Swanson is a hungry boi and it costs about 100 quid to fill him up, we’re going to be house sitting our way around the UK and Europe. What kind of content and travel guides do you want to see? Let us know in the comments! #livinginavan #selfbuildcamper #ukvanlife #vaninspiration
☀️ HOW TO SHOOT IN HARSH LIGHT LIKE A PRO 🕶 ☀️ HOW TO SHOOT IN HARSH LIGHT LIKE A PRO 🕶 The location is perfect, camera batteries are charged, but then the sun rays appear. Photographers love golden hour and shaded areas to capture the perfect smooth shot, but sometimes those just aren't options, not to mention that working with harsh light can create powerful photos! 💻 Shoot in RAW: Shooting in raw is crucial no matter what type of photography you're doing! When you shoot in raw, you can underexpose and still add light into the pixels that may seem too dark. 💡 Expose for the highlighted areas: Start by exposing so that the most highlighted area on your subject is exposed correctly. If you're shooting in raw, you can still pull light back into the dark areas for a correctly exposed image.📸 Bracket, bracket, bracket: If your camera has a bracketing feature (taking images at several different exposures when you press the shutter button) give it a try. If not, try adjusting your exposure manually while using a tripod to keep your camera in the same place. Then, in Lightroom, use the photo merge feature to merge the images together to create a correctly exposed image. ☀️ Position important features in the sunray: In the photos above, you can see that I've turned myself to face the sun and have turned my face upwards towards it. This way, my face and the front of my body are highlighted and the viewer's attention is pulled there. 🤯 Practice, practice, practice! It's so much better to take a few test runs by yourself or with a friend than to shoot in harsh sunlight for the first time with a client! 🤓 Like photography tips and tutorials?
